Students, businesses and the push for fairer opportunities
Being a Student Ambassador with Purpose Coalition has been such an eye-opening experience. Since I began, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in discussions around social mobility with a wide range of businesses and organisations, and it has completely changed the way I view the workplace and accessibility within different industries.
One of the most valuable parts of the experience has been learning about the different ways businesses are actively trying to create change. From improving opportunities for underrepresented groups to making workplaces more accessible and inclusive, it’s been inspiring to see how many organisations genuinely want to make a difference. Every business approaches social mobility differently, and hearing those perspectives has shown me how important these conversations really are.
As students, it’s easy to feel like our voices won’t be taken seriously in professional spaces, but one thing that really stood out to me was how much businesses valued our feedback. Our opinions and lived experiences were genuinely welcomed and considered and knowing that our perspectives could contribute to conversations about improving accessibility and opportunity was incredibly empowering.
The experience has also opened my eyes to the barriers that still exist for many people entering education and employment, but equally to the positive work being done to break those barriers down. It’s given me a much deeper understanding of social mobility and the role businesses can play in creating fairer opportunities for everyone.
Overall, being part of Purpose Coalition has been both rewarding and inspiring. I’m grateful to have met so many passionate people who are committed to driving change, and I’m excited to continue learning more about how businesses, education, and students can work together to create a more inclusive future.
