Sojan Joseph MP Visits PGL Beyond to See the Transformative Impact of Outdoor Learning

The Purpose Coalition was delighted to welcome Sojan Joseph MP, Member of Parliament for Ashford, to PGL Beyond's Grosvenor Hall activity centre to see first-hand how outdoor learning is helping young people develop the confidence, resilience and life skills they need to thrive.

Hosted by Jay Kirk, Site Manager at Grosvenor Hall, alongside Jack Savage, Policy Director at The Purpose Coalition, the visit provided an opportunity to tour the centre, meet members of the PGL Beyond team and hear about the experiences of young people taking part in activities on site.

As one of the UK's leading providers of outdoor education and educational travel, PGL Beyond works with hundreds of thousands of young people every year, delivering experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom and support personal development through adventure, teamwork and challenge. The organisation also plays an important role in supporting local economies through employment, investment and long-standing community partnerships.

Throughout the visit, discussions focused on the value of outdoor education in helping young people build confidence, independence and resilience, while also exploring how organisations can work together to widen access to these opportunities for children and young people from all backgrounds.

PGL Beyond's commitment to breaking down barriers to opportunity is demonstrated through initiatives such as its Breakthrough Fund, which helps schools serving disadvantaged communities access residential experiences that might otherwise be out of reach. By reducing financial barriers, the fund is ensuring that more young people can benefit from the personal growth, wellbeing and educational outcomes associated with outdoor learning.

The visit also highlighted the important contribution PGL Beyond makes within the Ashford constituency. As a major local employer, Grosvenor Hall supports jobs, skills development and economic activity, while welcoming thousands of young people each year to experience learning in an outdoor environment.

The Purpose Coalition works with organisations across the UK to showcase how businesses can play a leading role in breaking down barriers to opportunity. PGL Beyond's work demonstrates the powerful contribution that outdoor education can make to improving social mobility, supporting young people's wellbeing and creating opportunities that help individuals reach their full potential.

The Purpose Coalition would like to thank Sojan Joseph MP for taking the time to visit Grosvenor Hall and learn more about the positive impact PGL Beyond is making for young people, local communities and the wider education sector.
