Building the next generation workforce: Insights from Purpose Lab sessions with Bell Group
Having the chance to be a part of the Purpose Lab sessions with Bell Group gave me valuable insights into what modern careers can look like for the next generation. The discussions held helped me understand how skilled trades are evolving and how companies like Bell are working to attract younger people into hands-on roles and how they can adapt to challenges the young generation are facing.
One of the key takeaways was how important career progression is for young people. We spoke about the need for clear development pathways, mentoring, and opportunities to build responsibility over time. Knowing that a role can lead to long-term growth makes skilled trades feel like real careers rather than just jobs. We also went over how technology and AI could affect the future. Ideas such as digital tools for site communication, AI-assisted safety systems, and VR training showed how hands-on roles can become more efficient and safer.
Another thing we discussed was workplace culture and wellbeing. Feeling respected, supported, and valued was seen as a necessity to everyone who discussed. We spoke about the importance of good communication, positive team environments, and recognition beyond pay in helping people enjoy coming to work.
On a personal level, the sessions helped me develop confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills. Taking part in group discussions and sharing my views with professionals improved my ability to express ideas and contribute in a professional setting. I also gained a better understanding of how businesses think about recruitment, employee experience, and long-term workforce planning.
Overall, the Purpose Lab sessions gave me valuable insight into the future of skilled trades while helping me grow personally and professionally. It was a great opportunity to learn, engage with industry, and build skills that will support my future career.
