My reflections on being a Purpose Lab student ambassador
Being a Student Ambassador with Purpose Lab has supported my growth in more ways than I initially expected. During my early sessions, it was clear that all opinions were valued, creating a welcoming and respectful environment where asking questions, sharing ideas, and contributing openly were genuinely encouraged. The thought which Purpose Lab put into supporting students, from providing opportunities to network to always offering flexibility, keeping in mind the university responsibilities of each student.
These frameworks were particularly meaningful to me as someone with ADHD. The structure of the sessions, including prompts and guiding questions shared both before and during discussions, made participation feel accessible rather than overwhelming. That level of thoughtfulness created a space where it was easy to engage, reflect, and feel supported without pressure.
Throughout the programme, it became clear that meaningful impact is not only possible, but encouraged. Purpose Lab helped build my confidence and motivated me to contribute in ways that felt authentic to me. One of my favourite aspects was the focus on visibility for women and other marginalised groups across different industries. I found the discussions around supporting companies to create more inclusive recruitment strategies particularly engaging, especially those aimed at encouraging women to apply for roles in traditionally male-dominated fields in ways that genuinely address their concerns and experiences.
Before joining, I often viewed the business and corporate world as intimidating and impersonal. However, Purpose Lab’s people-focused and inclusive approach showed me that many organisations are actively working to create positive change. This gave me a sense of optimism about the future and my place within it.
As I prepare to finish university, Purpose Lab has played an important role in developing my confidence and transferable skills. It has expanded my understanding of the strategies and programmes being implemented across industries and has contributed meaningfully to both my personal and professional growth.
