More Than an Ambassador Role: a movement of change

This is a guest blog written by Teniola Lemidi, a Purpose Lab student at Royal Holloway University.

Being a Purpose Coalition ambassador has honestly been such a meaningful experience. It’s been more than just a role but a chance to grow, to be heard, and to connect with people and organisations that genuinely care about making a difference.

From the start, I felt like my voice mattered. I wasn’t just representing students, I was part of conversations that could shape real change. It gave me a deeper understanding of what organisations actually do beyond the logos and products. I got to learn from companies like TP, Enterprise Mobility, Colt, Sodexo, Southeastern Railway, NHS, Curtins, Travelodge, and Co-op. Hearing their stories and seeing their commitment to things like social mobility and inclusion made me realise how many different paths and possibilities are out there.

As someone who’s benefited from social mobility initiatives, this work really resonated with me. I know how hard it can be to access opportunities, and it meant so much to see these companies taking real steps to break down those barriers. It’s made me even more passionate about pushing for change and making sure we are coming up with strategies and policies that makes everyone feel included and not left out.

One of my highlights being an ambassador  was being invited to the House of Commons and receiving an award for my contribution. I’ll never forget how proud I felt. It was such a full-circle moment after all the discussions and Purpose Lab sessions, to be recognised like that was a huge confidence boost. I couldn’t believe I was standing in a place where decisions are made, being celebrated for speaking up and getting involved.

I’m so thankful to the Purpose Coalition for believing in young people like me and giving us these kinds of experiences. Being an ambassador has helped me grow not just in confidence, but in purpose. I’ve learned that change starts with conversation, and when we’re given the space to speak, we can help shape a better future ‘ not just for ourselves, but for the generations to come.
