Local MP Jacob Collier explores solutions to support the NHS 10 Year Plan with visit to Burton company that delivers care beyond hospital walls
Jacob Collier visited Sciensus on 10 April to see first-hand how specialist healthcare services are enabling patients to receive clinical treatment in their own homes.
During the visit, Mr Collier met with clinical and operational teams to understand how care delivered at home supports people to live more normal lives, including staying in work or education, while reducing the need for repeated hospital visits.
Sciensus works in partnership with the NHS to deliver hospital-quality care in community settings, helping to reduce pressure on hospitals by avoiding unnecessary admissions, shortening lengths of stay and freeing up clinical time for those who need it most. The model also supports delivery of the Government’s ambitions for the NHS, including care closer to home, greater use of digital services and a stronger focus on prevention. By expanding access to care in patients’ homes and communities, including rural areas, services like these can also play a role in reducing health inequalities.
Sciensus supports over 250,000 patients each year and works with approximately 97% of NHS Trusts across the UK. Its services help relieve pressure on the health system, including hospital bed days, A&E attendances and outpatient visits, while maintaining high levels of clinical care and patient satisfaction.
The visit also highlighted the organisation’s role as a long-standing local employer, supporting hundreds of jobs and creating new opportunities through apprenticeships and continued investment in its workforce.
Jacob Collier, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, said:

Christian Tucat, CEO of Sciensus, added:
“We were pleased to welcome Mr Collier, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, to our Sciensus Burton-on-Trent facilities to discuss how our partnership with the NHS is helping patients with complex medical needs receive care safely at home. By delivering specialist care outside hospital settings, we improve the patient experience, support better outcomes, and help create a more sustainable healthcare system by reducing costs for the NHS.”
