AI & The Future of Education

The Purpose Coalition and The Rigby Foundation are working together on a major national policy programme exploring how the UK education system must adapt to prepare young people for work, life and opportunity in an AI economy.

Artificial intelligence is already reshaping learning, skills, jobs and the workplace. Rather than starting with predetermined answers, the programme will gather evidence directly from young people, educators and employers to understand what is changing now, where the biggest gaps are, and what needs to happen next.

The programme will focus on three core perspectives.

Students and Young People

Understanding how young people are using AI today, how confident and prepared they feel, what skills they believe they will need, and what they want education and employers to do differently.

Educators

Exploring how AI is changing teaching and learning, where educators need greater support, and how curriculum, assessment and AI literacy may need to evolve.

Businesses and Employers

Identifying how AI is changing jobs, skills and recruitment, what employers need from the education system, and what businesses themselves can do to support young people entering the workforce.

The findings will inform a flagship report and AI-Ready Education Blueprint, setting out practical recommendations for policymakers and the wider education system.
