MP of the Week: Debbie Abrahams

Debbie Abrahams is our MP of the Week this week.

Debbie is leading genuinely impactful work through the Work and Pensions Select Committee, which she chairs. Most recently, she helped publish a detailed report evaluating the Government’s welfare reform plans and ensured the focus stayed on fairness, dignity, and protecting the most vulnerable.

What stood out is how she’s championed evidence-led policy and kept the spotlight on the long-term impact of reforms - particularly making sure changes support people living with health conditions or disabilities. She’s been constructive throughout and used her committee platform to encourage practical adjustments and prioritise support where it’s most needed.

She’s also been consistently strong in her wider work on social justice - continuing to raise awareness of the relationship between poverty, health inequalities and life chances, and making the case for a more compassionate, joined-up welfare system.
