MP of the Week: Andrew Ranger

Andrew Ranger has just published a report called “Where We Are: A Report on the Social Mobility Landscape” - based on months of conversations with charities, educators, employers, and young people. It highlights three major barriers to opportunity:

  • Missed opportunities – young people often don’t know what’s out there or how to access it.

  • The “quiet middle” – those not flagged as high-risk but still lacking support.

  • Geographic inequality – rural and coastal areas are routinely left behind.

What makes this standout is that he’s offering real, actionable solutions:

  • A National Opportunities Hub to signpost apprenticeships, mentoring and outreach in one place.

  • A Rural Social Mobility Strategy tackling digital access, transport and outreach.

  • Better use of data and stronger partnerships between schools and employers.

He’s also taken the issue straight to Parliament, securing a debate on careers and mobility this week, keeping momentum going. It’s clear he’s serious about turning research into action, and he’s framing it all through the lens of lived experience.
