Clive Efford MP visits University of Greenwich’s Eltham Campus

Clive Efford MP visited the University of Greenwich’s Eltham Campus to meet staff and students and to see firsthand how new technology is being used to strengthen teacher training.

During the visit, Mr Efford, MP for Eltham and Chislehurst, watched a demonstration of virtual reality headsets being used to help trainee teachers better understand how childhood trauma can present in the classroom.

The immersive training is designed to build confidence in recognising trauma-related behaviours and responding appropriately, supporting safer and more inclusive learning environments.

Mr Efford also met with students on teacher training courses to hear about their experiences, motivations for entering the profession, and how practical, classroom-focused learning is shaping their development as future teachers.

He then spoke with the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane Harrington, and other staff to discuss the importance of high-quality teacher education, innovation in training, and the role universities play in supporting local schools and communities.

Professor Jane Harrington, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of Greenwich:

“We were delighted to host Clive Efford MP at our Avery Hill campus.

“I am so proud whenever our fantastic students get to showcase their brilliant work and so it was great to show Mr Efford how we develop skills that contribute to growing our public services and the local and national economy.”
