Accord Healthcare joins the Purpose Coalition as its pharmaceutical industry lead
Accord Healthcare will bring its expertise across off-patent and speciality medicines to the Purpose Coalition, helping to strengthen the national conversation around medicines access, UK manufacturing and supply resilience.
The partnership will highlight the central role that medicines manufacturing, generics and biosimilars play in improving patient access, delivering value for the NHS and strengthening the resilience of the UK’s medicines supply.
The Purpose Coalition brings together leading organisations to tackle barriers to opportunity and demonstrate how responsible growth can deliver wider social and economic benefits.
Chaired by Rt Hon Justine Greening and supported by former MP and Shadow Labour Health Minister Paula Sherriff, it works with partners to build evidence, engage policymakers and develop practical recommendations that support growth and opportunity across the UK.
Accord operates at scale across both off-patent and speciality medicines and supplies approximately 10 per cent (by volume) of all generic medicines in the UK, while retaining a significant domestic manufacturing presence.
Through the partnership, Accord and the Purpose Coalition will develop a new Made for Better Health report. It will bring together evidence of Accord’s impact across medicines access, UK manufacturing, supply-chain resilience, regional growth, skills and employment.
The report will also examine how the UK can create a more sustainable environment for pharmaceutical manufacturing while accelerating the adoption of generic and biosimilar medicines.
The partnership will explore Accord’s wider contribution to opportunity and economic growth, including its work to develop apprenticeships and STEM careers.
