Inspiring careers in UK business

Last year, Pertemps launched its Workforce of the Future report in Westminster, highlighting how to inspire more young people to consider careers in UK business.

As part of the follow-up, the Purpose Coalition supported the development of a new teaching resource pack, produced in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton Business School.

This teaching resource was developed in partnership with key UK organisations and includes access to five short videos (each 2–3 minutes) intended to inspire both teachers and students.

These introductory videos are supported by five longer videos (each up to 10 minutes), which provide deeper insights into the organisations, the skills required, and the range of career opportunities available in UK businesses today. To support classroom use, an activity pack has been created and aligned to the GCSE Business curriculum in the UK.

The videos feature contributions from representatives of the Purpose Coalition, Pertemps, the University of Wolverhampton Business School, and senior leaders from three major companies: William Mitchell, Boots, and MyPolicy. The content explores the organisations themselves, the career journeys of the individuals involved, and their perspectives on the skills needed for successful and fulfilling careers in UK business.

Two of the five videos also include commentary from Lord Walney and the Rt. Hon. Justine Greening, sharing their views on the current and future state of UK businesses, and the essential skills that young people should develop.

The project highlights a range of post-school pathways, including university, apprenticeships, agency work, and schemes such as Kickstart, illustrating the diverse options now available to young people.
